Combined, this is a 24% savings rate — one of the highest mandatory retirement savings rates in the world. EPF contributions are split: 75% Akaun Persaraan, 15% Akaun Sejahtera, 10% Akaun Fleksibel.
What is the EPF dividend rate for 2024?
EPF declared 6.30% dividend for 2024 Conventional Savings — the highest since 2017. Shariah Savings also received 6.30%. Total payout: RM73.24 billion. Historical rates: 2023 (5.50%), 2022 (5.35%), 2021 (5.65%), 2020 (5.20%). EPF has paid above the 2.5% guaranteed minimum every single year since inception.
How much EPF will I have at retirement?
EPF balance at retirement depends on salary, years of service, and dividend rate. Rule of thumb: at RM3,000/month salary with 6.30% dividend, 30 years of contributions builds ~RM650,000–750,000. Under EPF's RIA Framework, the Basic Savings benchmark at age 60 is RM390,000 (phased in from RM270,000 in 2026), while the Adequate Savings target is RM650,000. Use our EPF Retirement Calculator for a precise projection based on your salary.
What is EPF Akaun 3 (Akaun Fleksibel)?
EPF Akaun Fleksibel (Account 3) receives 10% of all new contributions and can be withdrawn anytime for any purpose — no age limit, no reason needed. Minimum withdrawal RM50. One withdrawal per day. This was introduced in May 2024, replacing the old Account 1/2 structure. The other 90% (Akaun Persaraan 75% + Akaun Sejahtera 15%) remains for retirement and specific housing/education/medical needs.
Can I make voluntary EPF contributions?
Yes — voluntary EPF contributions (i-Saraan for self-employed, i-Suri for housewives) earn the same 6.30% dividend and qualify for RM3,000 income tax relief per year. Self-employed individuals, freelancers, and gig workers can register via the i-Akaun app or EPF branches. There's no minimum but RM300/month voluntary contribution over 30 years grows to ~RM330,000 at 6.30%.
Is EPF or ASB better for Malaysians?
Both are strong choices. EPF 6.30% (2024) vs ASB 5.25% (2024) + bonus — EPF paid higher in 2024. EPF: available to all Malaysians and non-citizens in formal employment, mandatory, more liquid via Akaun 3. ASB: Bumiputera only, bonus dividend on top of base dividend, invest up to RM200,000. For non-Bumiputera, EPF is the best risk-free government-guaranteed investment in Malaysia.
